Support the Scene is back and ready to introduce you to some of the amazing local talent we have here, and to reacquaint you with some of your favourites. We have such an incredible music scene here in the GVA, and there are so many amazing artists just waiting for you to check them out. So, after an intensely hot and busy summer, some of our talented local artists found time to answer a few of our questions.
Check out what Nick Stone had to say!
Q: For those who don’t know you, can you please introduce yourself and describe your sound?
Hey, my name is Nick Stone, I live out here in Vancouver BC. Nowadays I have been playing with a six piece band made up of some super talented people I met along the way. Our sound has developed from our shared love of classic hit records fused with elements of classic Rock n Roll, Indie Rock and mostly-older Country and Doo-Wop to name a few. Being a music lover I feel we have a lot of influence, so we pull from that and try to add ourselves along with a bit of modernity if that makes sense.
Q: What’s one of the biggest successes you’ve had as a musician?
When people tell me that anything I have made has had a powerful or positive effect on them, that always hits hard and makes me feel like I am doing something right. That and selling out the Wise Hall last winter 23’. That was a fun night.
Q: What’s your favourite venue to play?
The Hollywood Theater has been my favorite all around. Very comfortable, crowd was sick, and they let us hangout there forever. Good one.
Q: What do you think was the best Medium for music to be on? (Vinyl, Tape, CD, Digital)?
Tape Tape Tape, all the way. Just kidding. Streaming is incredibly easy and convenient so that's pretty cool. Only downside is that it's harder to make some good dough on spotify, etc. Vinyl is my favorite. I have many.
Q: Who is your favourite local band to see perform around town?
This is always a tough one as I have spent many of my nights checking out fellow local acts and I almost always leave impressed and feeling like I need to get my shit together. To name a few, I'll say Janky Bungag put on a show that had me singing along.
Grade School made me laugh with their “Superbad” movie credit visuals, and I had their song “Dear Dianna” stuck in my head thereafter.
Dani Black blew me away when I saw her playing with her new band. Amazing voice, terrific performer and writer.
Q: What’s coming up next for your music?
We just released a new track Called “These Streets” . We are super proud of this track and are looking to continue exploring that side of ourselves. That being said, we have a healthy handful of new songs recorded and we are planning to keep em coming through this year.
