Artist Interview - Square

Square, four dolls with instruments and varying outfits on an album cover

Support the Scene is back and ready to introduce you to some of the amazing local talent we have here, and to reacquaint you with some of your favourites. We have such an incredible music scene here in the GVA, and there are so many amazing artists just waiting for you to check them out. So, after an intensely hot and busy summer, some of our talented local artists found time to answer a few of our questions.

Check out what Square had to say!

Q: For those who don’t know you, can you please introduce yourself and describe your sound?

We're a modern avant-rock band based in Vancouver, ironically trying to justify art-making in our current (dis)information age. We're asking a unique musical question: what happens when you know all the rules, and where all the roads in life lead, and somehow still get lost?

Q: What’s one of the biggest successes you’ve had as a musician?

To us success is when the crowd manages to dance to our irregular time signatures.

Q: What’s your favourite venue to play?

Tyrant Studios in downtown Vancouver.

Q: What do you think was the best Medium for music to be on? (Vinyl, Tape, CD, Digital)?

Definitely vinyl! Nothing beats the thrill of holding the record in your hands, seeing it spin on the turntable, and admiring the artwork on the sleeve. There is a closer connection with the music that way!

Q: Who is your favourite local band to see perform around town?

Some of our Vancouver favourites include Rat Silo, Brahmankind, the Magic Triangle, and Neon Society with whom we played last night at Lana Lou’s.

Q: What’s coming up next for your music?

A second album is in the pipeline (our first was split over three EPs).
